Gaza is currently facing a severe rubbish crisis, with significant implications for public health and living conditions. The ongoing conflict and blockade have severely disrupted waste management services. Over 50,000 tons of waste have accumulated in Gaza, leading to unsanitary conditions and the spread of diseases.

The lack of fuel and electricity has crippled waste collection and disposal operations. This has resulted in heaps of garbage piling up in streets and public areas, posing a severe health hazard. The risk of disease outbreaks, such as hepatitis A, is escalating due to these conditions.

In addition to the rubbish crisis, Gaza is grappling with widespread food insecurity. The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) has warned that over half of Gaza’s population faces catastrophic food insecurity, with famine being imminent in some areas if immediate aid is not provided【25†source】. The humanitarian situation is exacerbated by restricted access to essential services and supplies, further straining the population’s resilience.

The international community and humanitarian organizations are being urged to intervene to prevent a worsening of these crises by providing necessary resources and support to address both the waste management and food security issues.
