Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong has said that though the passing of a resolution at the UN General Assembly supporting Palestine’s bid for recognition will not “end this conflict”, it is necessary to “build momentum towards peace”.
“This vote is not about whether Australia recognises Palestine. We will do that when we think the time is right,” she said following the vote, in which 143 nations cast their ballots in favour of granting Palestine expanded rights and privileges at the UN.

“What we would say and what I do say is Australia no longer believes that recognition can only come at the end of a peace process, it could occur as part of a peace process,” she added.
This headline suggests that France is urging Israel to halt its military operation in Rafah, open the border, and resume ceasefire negotiations. This indicates international concern over the situation in Rafah and a desire for diplomatic efforts to de-escalate the conflict and find a peaceful resolution. France’s call reflects a common approach by the international community to encourage dialogue and negotiation to resolve conflicts.
