Shelina Jan Mohammed's comments about MFB: A Ruthless Denial of facts.

by

“There are books of which the backs and the covers are by far the best parts” Charles Dickens, Oliver Twist.

That’s true about Shelina JanMohammed’s book Generation M:Young Muslims Changing the World Shelina JanMohammed is one such author who undertook an arduous journey to write a book without even knowing the job. The reader expects the author to show the highest degree of his intellectual abilities coupled with intense research about the he is writing about. In her book the author Shelina JanMohammed criticized MFB’s call for ban on facebook.

She wrote: The Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia issued a fatwa against Twitter, demanding that "real Muslims" avoid it, calling it a "platform for trading accusations and for promoting lies". The mufti is not the only one calling for "real Muslims" to abandon social media. In Pakistan, the CEO of a website called Millat Facebook has called on Muslims to delete their accounts on the "blasphemous" Facebook. Speaking at a conference on the subject of "Blasphemy by Facebook and Role of Muslim Youth in Social Media", he said Facebook had caused offence to millions of Muslims in 2010 by hosting a competition to draw the Holy Prophet.

Lessons

• Twitter and facebook are the only media for people to communicate.

• Blasphemy by facebook and twitter must be ignored.

• The progress and prosperity of Muslims lies in their use of facebook and twitter.

• Those who call for ban on twitter and facebook are hate mongers and bigots.

Ruthless Denial of Facts

The author nowhere mentions in her book about the caricature competition and the subsequent launch of MFB. I am reason enough to believe she didn’t know why MFB was created. Since she has talked about the necessity of “social network” (by social networks she only means facebook and twitter) , I must bring to her knowledge that facebook is banned in China. Hence the myth that without facebook the world is a deserted place is busted.

Without Reason:

In an article titled Violence in Muslim communities must be tackled published by her in The National- a U.A.E based newspaper, she wrote: But there’s also a deeper lesson that some Muslim communities need to take note of. It is imperative to speak up about the open and growing hatred of Muslims. But it is also imperative that we speak up equally loudly and categorically denounce similar acts being perpetrated by a small number of Muslims on other Muslims. When a former police body-guard called Mumtaz Qadri killed Pakistani minister Salman Taseer in 2011 because Taseer opposed blasphemy laws, Qadri was arrested, tried and hanged. And yet in some circles, Qadri was hailed by as a hero, rather than a murderer, and earlier this year after he was executed, thousands attended his funeral. (2nd Nov. 2016)

While writing this she seems ignorant of country she is writing about. Pakistan’s 98 percent population constitutes Muslims. Pakistan has blasphemy law which awards death punishment to anyone who commits blasphemy. Pakistan Penal Code Section 295, sub-section b and c deal with blasphemy. She also seems to have no knowledge about the blockage of youtube in Pakistan. If youtube can be blocked for uploading blasphemous content why can’t facebook be blocked? Hence MFB’s call for facebook ban is not based on something unreasonable.

I expect an oxonian to do better research when writing about something. Hiding the truth does not mean it does not exist. You do not even represent the whole Muslim community of the U.K let alone the whole Muslim youth. I am a Pakistani and I don’t agree with what you wrote about my country. You have no right to comment on the affairs you don’t have firsthand knowledge about.

People say if one wants to show love for Prophet Mohammad they must do so by following him and i am not in contention with this but most of those who say this seem to forget that when it comes to their other beloveds their love is manifested not only when they do as their beloved wishes but also w...

Yes.Unfortunately there are people who believe that love for Prophet can only be achieved through tweeting and sharing slogans on facebook...They can't realize that they are providing revenue to a platform that is blaspheming the most honourable person-Prophet Muhammad
